<p>I spent a couple of hours walking along the South West coastal path from Wembury beach heading East towards the Yealm estuary last week in search of passage migrant birds, in particular Yellow Wagtails which had been sighted there recently and possibly Clouded Yellow Butterflies. No sign of either of these but even better was this&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rspb.org.uk/discoverandenjoynature/discoverandlearn/birdguide/name/w/wryneck/">Wryneck</a><b>&nbsp;</b>sitting on a gate which I managed to get a shot of before it disappeared.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473155672063.jpeg"><img decoding="async" class="alignright size-full wp-image-11506" title="Wryneck" src="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473155672063.jpeg" alt="" width="1494" height="996" srcset="https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473155672063.jpeg 1494w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473155672063-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473155672063-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473155672063-1024x683.jpeg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1494px) 100vw, 1494px" /></a>These birds, a member of the Woodpecker family, are rare passage migrants in the UK, mainly on the south coast so I was lucky to spot this one, a life tick for me.</p>
<p>Following the path further I then spotted a <b>Kestrel </b>flying westward so I followed it back up the path and got close enough to catch some flight shots, this one with it hovering looking for prey.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156058859.jpeg"><img decoding="async" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-11507" title="Kestrel " src="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156058859.jpeg" alt="" width="1371" height="914" srcset="https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156058859.jpeg 1371w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156058859-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156058859-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156058859-1024x683.jpeg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1371px) 100vw, 1371px" /></a></p>
<p>I then made my way back eastward to see what else was around. There were at least a dozen Wheatear sitting on the fence posts preparing to make there way South.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156205756.jpeg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-11508 aligncenter" title="Wheatear" src="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156205756.jpeg" alt="" width="881" height="1322" srcset="https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156205756.jpeg 881w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156205756-200x300.jpeg 200w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156205756-768x1152.jpeg 768w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156205756-682x1024.jpeg 682w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 881px) 100vw, 881px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Also a handful of Stonechats were flitting around and this one allowed me to get quite close.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156335430.jpeg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-11509" title="Stonechat" src="http://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156335430.jpeg" alt="" width="1377" height="918" srcset="https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156335430.jpeg 1377w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156335430-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156335430-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/wp-1473156335430-1024x683.jpeg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1377px) 100vw, 1377px" /></a></p>
<p>Further on towards the mouth of the Yealm there were numerous Gulls sitting on the rocks at the bottom of the cliffs and one or two flying over. I also spotted a Razorbill on the sea, close to the shore but a little too far down to get a decent shot.</p>
