Common Blue ♂️
I finally tracked down a solitary male Common Blue, newly emerged on my local patch yesterday. If the rain stops, hopefully, I can find a female too.

Another take on one of the Small Coppers on my local patch at the beginning of August
Small Copper
Tricky to catch this Small Copper on this thin stem, the wind was quite strong, but quite liked the end result.
Small Copper
A few newly emerged Small Coppers on my patch this week, managed to grab a few shots between the rain.
Marbled White
I finally had a successful visit to my local Marbled Whites, in particular this one roosting on a Heath Spotted Orchid.

Another, slightly tighter shot of a Marbled White on my local patch last week.
I hope everyone’s participating in the Big #ButterflyCount just fifteen minutes of your time to record the Butterflies you see in your garden, local park or in your favourite Butterfly location.
Grayling
My first ever shot of a Grayling from a Butterfly Conservation Devon field trip to Soar a couple of weekends ago.
Small Skipper
I found this Small Skipper roosting on my local patch this week, lots of Meadow Browns and Ringlets around too, still searching for the Marbled Whites though!
Meadow Brown
A roosting Meadow Brown on my local patch back at the end of June.
Heath Fritillaries
This is a shot I’ve been after for three years now, since I first started visiting the Lydford Old Railway reserve in Devon. I was delighted to find these two in copula, albeit quite low down in the grass (hence the messy background).

Another shot of a Heath Fritillary from a couple of Saturdays ago, taken early on before they became active, roosting on Oxeye Daisy
Painted Lady
Still no sign of the summer brood of Common Blues on my patch so here’s another shot from back in the Spring, this time a Painted Lady
Green Hairstreak
Good numbers of these last week in the Lyd valley on Dartmoor.
Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary
From a recent visit to the Lydford Old Railway Butterfly Conservation site. Once the rain stops I’m planning another visit to see the Heath Fritillaries.
Male Orange Tip (Explored 27 April 2017)
A male to follow on from the female posted previously, this one from my garden
Female Orange Tip
My first Butterfly for the 2017 season. Lovely to see these in good numbers this Spring. I stumbled upon this female roosting but had to run home for my camera, fortunately she was still in the same place!!
Best viewed on a large display!
Three Tortoiseshells (Explored 4 September 2017)
Lovely to see improved numbers of Small Tortoiseshells in my garden recently, these three enjoying my Buddleia
